Table Mountains – Szczeliniec Wielki and Errant Rocks
The highest peak in the Table Mountains and the famous rock labyrinth. How to plan a trip to Szczeliniec and Błędne Skały—routes, timing, and practice.
The Table Mountains National Park protects the only mountains in Poland with flat, table-like peaks made of sandstone. Two of its most famous attractions—Szczeliniec Wielki and Błędne Skały—can be visited during a single trip through the Kłodzko Valley.
Szczeliniec Wielki - 919 m above sea level
Szczeliniec Wielki is the highest peak in the Table Mountains. A route to the summit leads up stone steps carved in the 18th century. There's no single peak at the top—instead, there's a labyrinth of rock passages and crevices, interspersed with observation decks. On a clear day, you can see the entire Kłodzko Valley and the distant Sudetes.
Rock formations and legends
The sandstones of the Table Mountains have been sculpted by water and wind for millions of years. These sandstone formations have given rise to fanciful shapes, each named after an animal or creature. A hike along the Szczeliniec plateau is like strolling through a natural museum of rock formations.
Errant Rocks
The park's second major attraction is the Errant Rocks, located at an altitude of approximately 853 meters above sea level. It's a dense network of narrow passages between enormous sandstone blocks. The trail is one-way—in the narrowest places, you have to squeeze sideways. This spot is especially popular with families with children and photographers.
Practical advice
- Both places are located within the national park – entrance tickets and designated routes apply.
- There are a lot of stairs to climb to Szczeliniec – it's worth wearing comfortable shoes and setting aside time for a leisurely visit.
- During the season, access to Błędne Skały may be restricted due to limited space - check the rules before departure.
- Mountain weather changes quickly – take a raincoat even in summer.
What to combine with the trip
The Table Mountains lie close to Kudowa-Zdrój, so a trip can easily be combined with a walk through the spa park or a visit to the Skull Chapel in Czermna. This allows you to see both the natural beauty and cultural highlights of the region in one day.
